Liposuction for Breast Reduction?

Liposuction for breast reduction can be achieved for select candidates. Those interested in liposuction for breast reduction may require a moderate amount of fat tissue removal and are not concerned about breast droopiness. Liposuction on the breasts may be performed to improve asymmetry between the breasts. In addition, liposuction may be performed to improve hypertrophy before complete breast growth.

Liposuction methodology for breast reduction has the advantage of no large open incision and maximum scar prevention. In addition, patients can usually return to most all normal activities within 2 days or so of the procedure. In fact, it is a less invasive approach to revision or secondary breast reduction.

This procedure may not be right for every breast reduction candidate. Plastic surgeons will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to determine candidacy for the procedure. Ultrasound or mammography will be used to evaluate the amount of fat tissue in the breasts and to help establish eligibility for the procedure. The cost for liposuction breast reduction may range between $3000 and $5000 plus the cost of the ultrasound or mammography.

The procedure involves a small incision just above the fold of the breast and possibly an addition small incision relating to the medial aspect of the breast fold. Then, a small cannula, often 4mm in size, with a vacuum or syringe device will be inserted into the deep plane of the breasts and fanned upward to the surface layers of the breast. Then, a smaller cannula will be used to assist with resulting scar retraction and help with breast droopiness. After surgery, a dressing will be placed and a support bra will be required to be worn for two or more months following the procedure.

Liposuction for breast reduction does not often involve complications. Rare complications include: infection or hematoma which can be treated. It is important to carefully select a board certified plastic surgeon that has extensive experience with this type of breast reduction procedure. Only a select number of plastic surgeons perform this procedure.
