Make Your Liposuction Results Last

Many liposuction patients believe they can undergo the procedure once and they'll be fat free and flab free forever. While liposuction procedures are designed to spot-reduce excess pockets of fat, it is not a quick fix weight loss solution. It is extremely important to follow your plastic surgeon's post-operative instructions to a tee to ensure you achieve the best results. The following tips are also recommended to make your lipo last:

Everyday

  • Maintain a diet and exercise routine. The number one way to maintain the results of liposuction is to keep the weight off. Unfortunately, the procedure doesn't eliminate every single fat cell in the treated are, so gaining weight may affect the body. Keep a sensible diet and fitness plan to ensure your liposuction results last.
  • Care for your skin. Whether you've had liposuction or not, everyone experiences a loss of elasticity in their skin as a result of decreasing levels of hyaluronic acid and collagen. To help prevent sagging and allow your body to conform to the liposuction contours, it is important to moisturize everyday with a lotion that contains collagen boosting minerals such as vitamin C.
  • Minimize sun exposure. Post-liposuction patients face the risk of skin pigmentation changes if they go out in the sun too quickly after the procedure. However, what you may not know is that sun exposure, even years after liposuction, can accelerate collagen breakdown and affect the tone of your skin.

Periodically

  • Exfoliate. Once you've fully healed after your liposuction procedure, exfoliate the treated area to reveal the smooth skin underneath.
  • Massage. A massage helps boost lymph movement and circulation to achieve smooth, even contours after a liposuction procedure. Ask your doctor for more specific instructions about the best type of post-lipo massages.
