Can Liposuction Boost Breast Size?
Imagine undergoing liposuction to remove fat from your belly and thighs to find that you also got a breast enhancement. It sounds way to good to be true, but some doctors are claiming that liposuction actually helps boost breast size.
According to a small-scale study of 60 patients, dermasurgeon Eric Finzi, MD, found that significant breast augmentation—about one to two cup sizes—naturally occurred in 43 percent of women who underwent liposuction in their abdomen area.
“When you remove this fat, then the other hormones in the body are able to increase breast size,” Finzi said.
Not a Proven Method
However, most medical experts believe that liposuction doesn’t offer breast enhancing benefits and claim there are much more proven methods to boost breast size such as breast augmentation surgery.
According to plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Hand, breast enhancement in liposuction patients probably occurs in less then 10 percent of cases. He adds that since the procedure is used to remove fat cells from the abdomen or thigh area, if/when patients experience weight gain, the fat cells have to go somewhere.
In “very rare cases” it “might” be a possibility that patients would experience a natural increase in breast size, but there is no real scientific proof, he said.
There have only been reports of three cases of enhanced breast size after liposuction throughout medical literature, which shows that maybe this theory really is too good to be true.
So the consensus is that liposuction should be used to sculpt and contour the body, not as a method for breast augmentation.
