Fat Melting Injections Cleared by FDA
The Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF) recently announced that it has received approval from the FDA to begin conducting a clinical trial to investigate the safety and effectiveness of injection lipolysis treatment.
The treatments known as injection lipolysis have been commonly associated with the terms mesotherapy and fat dissolving or "Lippodissolve."
Injections to Rid Body of Fat
These types of treatments, which are becoming increasingly popular, are supposed to reduce unwanted accumulations of fat.
The ingredients and techniques used with various injections tend to vary.
Injection Lipolysis
Injection lipolysis involves the injection of various compounds in the fat, however the FDA hasn't approved it.
"We are pleased to finally have the approval to move forward on this important clinical trial," explained V. Leroy Young, MD, chief investigator of the study. "This study is long overdue, and will go a long way toward developing more standardized protocols and ultimately improving patient safety in this area."
Study Set to be Conducted
The study, which will receive funding from ASERF, will be conducted under FDA supervision and will follow patients over a 46-week period to evaluate the efficiency of various form of injection lipolysis.
It will reportedly include imaging, and clinical measurements.
"We hope that the study will provide the data needed to clarify some of the controversy and confusion surrounding this potentially beneficial treatment," said Young.
