Liposuction News
Surgeon’s Suspension Causes Concern
In states like Arizona, anyone who is licensed to practice medicine is enabled to perform liposuction on patients.
This permits doctors without any formal training or certification to perform life altering cosmetic procedures.
However, doctors warn that anyone considering fat-removal surgery should be sure that their surgeon and the staff is fully certified and experienced.
Doctor's License Suspended
Last week, the license of Anthem doctor, Dr. Peter Normann, was suspended after three of his patients died while undergoing liposuction.
Although his website claims he is an experienced cosmetic surgeon, the results of his surgeries have proven otherwise.
“Calling yourself a plastic or cosmetic surgeon does not make you a qualified plastic surgeon,” says Roxanne Guy, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Why Are More Doctors Claiming They Are Plastic Surgeons?
According to Shaun Parson, a plastic surgeon and the chairman of surgery at the Scottsdale Health Shea, more doctors are quick to jump on the cosmetic surgery bandwagon for its financial benefits.
“Insurance companies do not cover cosmetic procedures, including liposuction, so the surgery, costing $2,000 or more, is paid out of pocket by patients,” explains Parson.
