Disposable Liposuction Instrument for Safer Surgeries

Medical device manufacturer Tulip BioMed™, Inc. has developed new disposable cannulas that are predicted to significantly advance cosmetic surgery procedures, most notably liposuction.

The cannulas are disposable and provide a solution to cross-contamination problems by terminating the reuse of instruments used in liposuction, fat transfers, and other procedures involving a cannula.

Furthermore, the new instruments offer patients a minimally invasive approach to harvest, transfer, and re-inject fat. The cannulas have a lubricant coating that is aimed at reducing the trauma to the lumen cells as well as makes manipulating extraction and re-injection procedures easier, causing less swelling and bruising and a shorter recovery time.

Currently, there are several models of the disposable cannulas on the market including five disposable, versatile models that are designed to work with conventional aspiration machines in addition to the syringe system (aesthetic) way of performing liposuction.

The instruments have been very well received by plastic surgeons who are concerned with patient safety, health, and aesthetic results. According to Dr. J. William Little, MD, the disposable cannula will help further advance the cosmetic surgery industry with regards to safety and efficacy.

“Tulip's blunt tip disposable cannulas will help us perform safer surgeries with more predictable results and are convenient for the O.R. staff,” said Dr. Little.
